New York metal duo, Scumbag, is back with their second EP, Blood Drinker. This project marks fresh territory for the band as they explore blackened death metal with dizzying, labyrinthian song structures. With a clear departure from the chaotic, tongue-in-cheek brutal death metal heard on their first release, this release takes on a more serious tone by using the lore of vampires as a metaphor to explore themes of isolation, insanity, and the tendency towards self-destruction.

A beautiful journey from start to finish, with perfectly placed moments of gentility amidst the rhythmic intrigue and blast beats of their guest drummer. jsteadmanfan
The technicality woven into every track is dizzying, especially considering the guitars and drums. Songwriting and arrangements are quite impressive, with intricacies allowing for some very dense structures to be built and unraveled without sounding unruly
A strength with this band album is the balance they strike between melodic guitar components and ones that are strictly dissonant. When those two ends converge, particularly highlighted alongside a drop / break in the track, the tone is sour Lorenzo
Mind-flaying brutal technical death metal that will pulverize you to smithereens while its complex structures stun your cerebral cortex. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 19, 2022
